Handyman answer

What photos should I send for a handyman estimate?

Send at least one wide photo showing the whole work area, medium photos showing how the damaged or new item relates to nearby walls, floors, fixtures, or furniture, and close photos showing the defect, fasteners, labels, edges, and measurements. Add a ruler or tape measure for scale and keep addresses, faces, documents, and access codes out of view.

Conditions that affect the answer

  • Good photos show context and detail; a single close-up often hides the access, material, or surrounding damage that determines scope.
  • Include every location when a request covers multiple rooms or punch-list items.
  • For installation work, photograph the unopened product label, model number, included hardware, proposed mounting surface, and nearby utilities.
  • For water-related damage, state whether the source was repaired and whether the area is fully dry.

Limits and safer alternatives

  • A photo review can help plan labor, materials, and the next step, but hidden framing, moisture, wiring, plumbing, rot, or structural movement may change the scope on site.
  • Do not publish or send sensitive images through public social posts.
  • An exact color, texture, grain, or aged-finish match cannot be guaranteed from photos alone.

What to send or prepare

  • Take one wide room or exterior-area view in good light.
  • Take medium views from two angles and close views of every damaged edge, joint, fastener, label, or obstruction.
  • Include width, height, depth, and clearance measurements with a readable tape or written list.
  • Add a short description of the desired result, service ZIP code, access constraints, and preferred timing.

Scheduling

Submit the photo set with a concise scope. Charlotte Service Hub will tell you whether the work can be planned from the evidence or whether an on-site assessment is needed before pricing and scheduling.
